OXFORD University has been urged to strip Aung San Suu Kyi of her honorary degree.

About 400,000 members of the Rohingya minority in Myanmar - of which Ms Suu Kyi is de-facto leader – have been displaced in violence allegedly instigated by the country’s.

Hazel and Steve Dawe, who live in Oxford, have officially asked for the honour to be withdrawn.

It was formally awarded in June 2012.

They claim the Oxford graduate has ‘refused to condemn’ the military’s actions in Myanmar.

Oxford City Council has already said it will seek to strip her of the freedom of the city at a meeting next month.

Oxford University did not respond to a request for comment.
