PROSECCO and preened men will entertain women at a charity ladies' night.

Horspath Football Club will host an evening fundraiser featuring food and fruity performances from strippers and a drag queen.

Sam Masterman organised the event in aid of Sobell House Hospice in Headington and Help for Heroes, to take place on Saturday, October 7.

The 37-year-old, who lives in Wheatley, said: "I want the ladies to enjoy it and laugh as hard as they can whilst doing something for two amazing charities."

Mum-of-two Mrs Masterman said she felt 'very strongly' about Help for Heroes, as her her husband, Andrew Masterman, is an RAF veteran.

He worked in the ground radio maintenance section at RAF Brize Norton and collected medals for long service and tours including in the Gulf and Falklands wars, before leaving the force a few years ago.

Mrs Masterman said: "He was helped by one of the many charities Help for Heroes helps.

"They need recognition for what they have done; for people to stand up and take notice of the people protecting us. They go out and give the ultimate sacrifice, and that should be supported."

Sobell House is another charity close to Mrs Masterman's heart, as her aunt Rosalind Mackay died there three years ago.

The Forest Hill resident was 58 when she lost her life to bone and ovarian cancer.

Mrs Masterman said: "They gave her the care and time and dignity that she needed. There was always a friendly face and somebody to explain things to you.

"She was terrified at the end, but they looked after her and made her feel not afraid.

"That's an amazing thing to be able to do."

Mrs Masterman, a full-time mum, said she wanted to organise a light-hearted event to celebrate the work of both organisations.

The event in Horspath Road will feature a hog roast and a raffle, with donations including a VIP tour for two of the Renault F1 base in Enstone, and afternoon tea for two at De Vere Oxford Thames.

Guests will walk a red carpet donated by Carpets 4 Less and dance in a disco supplied by Core Event Hire.

Mrs Masterman was keen to thank businesses for supplying other prizes: a celebration cake from Cornfield Bakery in Wheatley, meals for two at Wheatley's The Cricketers Arms and The King's Arms in Sandford-on-Thames, and a cut and blow dry at Angels Hair Design in Headington.

The raffle also features several tickets for The Race Hut, Blenheim Palace, Whizzkidz, Vue cinema, Hollywood Bowl, Oxford Ice Rink and Beale Park.

Guests will also get to quaff Prosecco donated by Booker Wholesale and use a photobooth supplied by PhotoBox.

Tickets cost £20 and are available by calling 07979278985.
