RELATIONS between Aflah Nursery and the neighbouring scout group have broken down following a row over painted traffic barriers.

The nursery, which occupies the Regal Community Centre five days a week, painted barriers to mark out its play area.

But the bright blue paint made its way onto the 2nd Oxford Scout group's wall.

The scout's treasurer Neil Thompson said Aflah had 'no respect' for the property or the scout building next door.

The nursery's director Frazana Aslam said the scout's leaders were 'rude' when she asked them to move an 'unsafe' piece of rope attached to the car park gates.

Mr Thompson said: "We have always had issues with them and they ignored us when we asked them to clean the paint from our building.

"Myself and the chairman had to give up some of our own time.

"We are a charity and all of the money we make is meant to be spent on the children who attend the group not repairing the damage they have done to our building."

The building has since been repainted by Aflah but Mr Thompson complained of rubbish being piled up outside the community centre and that the nursery's traffic barriers had been 'constantly' blocking its fire exit.

Nursery director Frazana Aslam said relations had become strained .

She said: "I have to say relations between the users of the Regal and the scouts are not good.

"We had our barriers repainted and some paint ended up on their side of the wall but we have now painted over it for them.

"As for the claims about rubbish, we are only tenants and it has nothing to do with us."

She added that the nursery had permission from the Regal executive committee to use the traffic barriers as they did for a 'free flow' system for children to get outside.

Aflah will continue to run sessions at the centre after losing its bid to take on Florence Park Children's Centre.
