VAN owners and drivers in West Oxfordshire have been advised to be wary following a spate of break-ins.

Witney Town Council shared a warning from West Oxfordshire PCSO Helen Keen on social media offering safety advice for van owners.

Motorists are advised to wipe away any marks left behind by a phone cradle or sat nav, park in busy, well-lit areas, ideally covered by CCTV and hide tools and valuable items if it is not possible to remove them from the vehicle entirely.

Other advice includes parking with the rear doors obstructed to prevent easy access, security marking all items to make them less appealing to thieves and take photographs of tools and equipment to record serial numbers.

Those who would like tools and equipment marked or a ‘No tools kept in this vehicle’ sticker are asked to contact their nearest police team by ringing 101.

Anybody witnessing a break-in taking place should call 999 immediately.
