A COMMUNITY clean-up is planned for the streets of Kidlington, with council street cleansing teams are lined up for the task.

Cherwell District Council will be sending out its street cleansing team from today as part of its neighbourhood blitz campaign.

The team will be turning their attentions to eradicating litter, graffiti and dog mess, whilst the council clean and green team will be door-knocking to talk to people about waste and recycling.

Cherwell District Council lead member for clean and green Debbie Pickford said: “Cherwell’s street cleansing operatives do sterling work all year round to tackle problems like littering and graffiti, and they’ll be going above and beyond their normal duties next week to get Kidlington looking its very best.

“I hope villagers will notice the difference and be inspired to keep their neighbourhoods looking spick and span for the rest of the year.”

As part of the week of clear-ups there will also be an offer for Kidlington residents to buy recycling bins at a discounted price or claim a free bulky waste collection.

Ms Pickford added: “Throughout the year lots of us will have a washing machine break down or a favourite armchair give up the ghost.

“For the people of Kidlington, next week will be a prime opportunity to get rid of their bulky items free of charge.”
