RUNNERS across the county have the opportunity to run the Oxford Half Marathon for free while supporting the fight against the city's homelessness problem.

Oxford Homeless Pathways has five places to offer people for the run - with more available if there are high levels of interest.

The charity says the run is a great opportunity to raise funds for a good cause while drawing attention to the issue of homelessness.

Fundraiser Mackenzie Aspell said: "We look at the root cause of homelessness and work to address those issues.

"Our aim is to break the cycle of homelessness many people find themselves in.

"The half marathon is a great opportunity for individuals to do some fundraising. We hope to fill our places and make a positive impact on the lives of Oxfords homeless."

Across the UK there has been a 134 per cent in crease in rough sleepers since 2010. Up to 50 people sleep rough on Oxford's streets each night.

Oxford Homeless Pathways has been on the frontline of homelessness for 30 years.

The charity provides accommodation for more than 200 people every night and help close to 600 homeless people every year.

The Oxford Half Marathon, which last year saw more than 7,500 runners take to the city's streets, will be held on October 8.
