One of the country's leading human rights campaigners will speak in Oxford this autumn, Blackwell's bookshop announced yesterday.

Shami Chakrabarti will give a talk at the Sheldonian Theatre on her new book 'Of Women' on the 10 November.

A former director of the National Council for Civil Liberties from 2003 to 2016, Ms Chakrabarti is now the Labour Party's shadow attorney general and a member of the House of Lords.

Her latest book explores the huge challenges faced by the world in the twenty-first century and how not enough is being done to create a more equal world.

The talk will be introduced by Mark Goldring, the Chief Executive of Oxfam.

Tickets for the Broad Street event are on sale now for £25 including the book or £8 for entry only.

Seating will be on a first come, first seated basis, with the doors opening at 6:30pm.
