HUNDREDS of jobseekers will be able to find new career opportunities at a major job fair at Oxford Town Hall.

The Oxford Times Job Fair - the fourth - will be held at the St Aldate's venue on Friday, September 22, from 10am to 3pm.

The first job fair of the year took place in February and this followed the first two recruitment fairs in February and September last year, with the first attracting more than 1,500 jobseekers.

There was also a special job fair in June to find staff to fill some of the 3,000 new job opportunities at the £440m Westgate Centre, which is due to open on October 24.

While shopping centre staff are not being recruited later this month there will be a wide range of vacancies on offer, with staff from more than 25 employers manning stands to explain the roles to prospective employees.

Newsquest Oxfordshire's Ravinder Pal-Hampton, job fair organiser, said she expected the town hall's main hall to be packed with jobseekers on September 22.

She added: "So far about 25 employers have come forward to take part in the job fair and we hope more will come forward as well.

"There are some major employers who have joined so far including Thames Valley Police, Oxford Bus Company, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and care firm Day and Nightcare Assistance are once again the event sponsors.

"The Oxford Times job fair is now very well established and is a good way for jobseekers to talk to employers in an informal setting.

"There is plenty of space in the main hall of the town hall for employers to set up their information stands and

"It's not like a job interview, but jobseekers can give their details to employers and take a look at a wide variety of different roles on offer.

"They could see an opportunity that will prompt them to consider a career change."

Other employers who have signed up to take part include the Army, the Royal Navy, Bright Horizons nursery group and Paterson Recruitment, which has offices in Oxford, Abingdon, Bicester and Witney.

Day and Nightcare Assistance, which has staff in Oxford, Wantage, Witney, and Banbury, was established in 1993.

It is one of Oxfordshire’s longest running local providers of live-in care, supporting elderly and disabled people who want to stay living in their own homes.
