RYAN Ledson is hoping to be a part of another successful cup run as Oxford United begin their Checkatrade Trophy campaign tonight.

The U’s travel to Sky Bet League Two club Stevenage to open their Southern Group G campaign.

It is a competition which has served United well in the past two years, reaching back-to-back finals at Wembley.

And the midfielder, pictured, who is calling on his side to improve on Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury Town in Sky Bet League One, is eyeing another memorable run.

Ledson, who played in the Wembley defeat to Coventry City in April, said: “The boys can’t be too down about it (Saturday).

“We’ve got another game now against Stevenage.

“It’s a competition that’s been really good to us the past few years, and we will have a right go.”

Stevenage have made a strong start and remain unbeaten in League Two following their 1-0 win over Barnet on Saturday.

United could use the tie as an opportunity to give fringe players game time.

But Ledson is hoping the U’s can use it as a springboard for their league game at MK Dons this weekend.

The 20-year-old said: “A few of the lads who need some minutes will hopefully get some at Stevenage.

“But we will be looking to win there and if we win at MK Dons (on Saturday) it is a good start.”
