CLUELESS partners preparing to pop the question have been giving a helping hand in putting a ring on it.

Beaverbrooks jewellers in Oxford is offering an ‘engage-mentor’ to help hapless romantics plan their proposals.

It comes after a survey by the company found four in 10 women were secretly disappointed with how they were proposed to.

A love expert will help the winner plan their proposal to the finest detail, from where to propose to the perfect ring.

Adam Johnstone, from Didcot, said the service would have helped him as he left his girlfriend very underwhelmed.

The 32-year-old, who ‘miraculously’ got married to the same woman in the last fortnight, said: “I think Jemma was very disappointed with her proposal at first because I decided to do it as a surprise for her on her 30th birthday and give her the impression I’d forgotten her birthday.

“She was in a massive grump because she’d organised an amazing surprise for my birthday previously.

“I even ended up getting messages from her friends asking me if I was going to bother doing anything and after a whole day of her being in a terrible mood because I’d ruined her birthday, I decided that I just needed to get it done so that she could enjoy it.

“So I sat down beside on her on the sofa, where she was having a strop, and asked her to marry me.”

The accountant said his now wife’s demeanour instantly changed and she was ‘delighted’ to accept his proposal.

He said: “We’ve been married for more than a week now so everything turned out okay but I really do wish that I had had the advice of an ‘engage-mentor’ because they probably would’ve told me that my method wasn’t a very good idea and I would’ve avoided any disappointment on her part.”
