PEOPLE will have the opportunity to explore the history of a Witney burial ground as it opens up for heritage days.

Witney Town Council will open Tower Hill Cemetery and display old burial records between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9.

There will be a heritage trail available to visitors that will give them the opportunity to find out more about the site’s Commonwealth war graves, graves of well-known figures from the area and the flora and fauna of the cemetery.

At midday on the Saturday only there will be a short service of reflection led by the Revd Toby Wright and Father Patrick Broun with music from Witney Town Band.

Refreshments and limited parking will be provided by Our Lady and St Hugh Church at the bottom of Tower Hill.

Visitors are advised that it may not be possible to gain access to some features of the trail by wheelchair or with a pram/pushchair.

Every September, heritage open days see thousands of volunteers organise 5,000 events.
