RESIDENTS are invited to have their say on potential HGV restrictions.

The proposal is for a new 7.5 tonne weight limit for Burford High Street.

Oxfordshire County Council asking for views from the public after working with Burford Town Council to design a scheme that would address their concerns about HGVs using the town as a 'through route'.

The plans would prohibit vehicles over the weight limit travelling between Burford and Fulbrook roundabouts (A40 to A424).

Access would only be allowed to HGVs to make deliveries and necessary pick ups and the emergency services would also be exempt.

If approved, there would be advanced alternative route signage for HGVs to use the A44 north-westwards from the A34, the A40 westwards from the A34, and the A429 from the A40 at Northleach northwards to Stow on the Wold and vice versa.

According to the county council website: "the proposal is primarily intended to protect the historic residential streets and its community from heavier lorry traffic".

Objections to the proposals, specifying the grounds on which they are made, should be made by September 15.

The council will consider all comments.

These can be made in writing or via the online questionnaire, with the reference: JW-WeightLimit.
