A TOWN council is sharing some safety advice with residents as the British summer continues to heat up.

Witney Town Council took to social media to advise people in the town on protecting the home in hot weather.

Crimes like burglaries can increase during the summer period as people leave their windows open and go on holidays.

The advice, produced by Thames Valley Police and shared by the council, urges people not to leave valuables or car keys by open windows or doors.

Valuables can be marked with a postcode and residents enjoying some time in the garden should keep their doors locked.

People going on holiday should ensure their house looks like people are home, according to the advice.

This can be done by asking a friend to call in and asking to cancel deliveries like newspapers and milk.
