THERE’S so much happening for cyclists in Wallingford on Sunday.

On the Kinecroft we will have BMX skills sessions, a ‘pump track’ that’s great for teens with bikes, scooters, and skateboards, available all weekend for a small charge. For the main event on Sunday, British Cycling are bringing their fantastic ‘Go Ride’ team and they will be taking younger children through their paces in a safe, grassy area. Just get your children to bring their bikes and they can get involved for free between 10am and 4pm. There will also be trampolines, a circus tent, a big inflatable slide and plenty of fun to be had with all the stores and displays.

The five-mile family ride takes children (and their parents) through a series of challenges with stickers and a goody bag awaiting the excited finishers in association with Earth Trust.

We’ve already had 200 sign up for this fantastic event which runs from 10.15am to 12.15pm. The early family riders will also get the chance to see the start of the Men’s National Junior Championship Road Race at 10.30am – with a full peloton of 120 riders, team cars and motorcycle outriders it promises to be quite a spectacle.

That’s just one of the rides happening from Wallingford on the day, and you don’t need to be a racer, or a child, to take part!

For the cycling enthusiast, we have Road Sportives at 50km and 100km and 11-mile and 20-mile Mountain Bike rides.

To avoid queues, you should sign up online before Friday – wfoc.co.uk – but you can just turn up on the day. What is great about this day is that the cyclist can take part in any of these events from 8am and come back into the town centre, grab some food on the Kinecroft, use the secure bike park, and then go watch some exciting racing!

As cyclists arrive back the race programme starts around the dedicated town centre circuit from about 1.30pm. Racers from all over the country will be coming along to test their fitness, skills, and nerve.

The programme combines with the return of the National Junior Road Races, which are contested around the roads of South Oxfordshire but finish on Castle Street in Wallingford (men at about 1pm, women at about 4.45pm).

The 2017 National Champions will win, and be presented with their jerseys on the day. Those jerseys matter.

Senior professionals riding as current National Champions in the Tour de France wear them instead of the team jerseys.

We aim to encourage people of all ages to get on their bikes and to give youth riders a path to the top levels of the sport.
