PUPILS made their headteacher ‘proud’ after excelling in a reading skills challenge.
Year 7 pupils at John Mason School in Abingdon have been awarded ‘master class’ status in reading; an accolade given by a learning assessment company called Renaissance.
It runs an accelerated reader programme that monitors pupils’ independent reading practice.
Year 7 take part in 25 minutes of compulsory reading every day at the Wootton Road school.
Headteacher Sarah Brinkley said: “Reading every day is crucial for students to make good progress in their learning.
“We have seen phenomenal success with students this year. I am very proud of the culture we have created where reading is valued and celebrated.”
