A NEW space-themed exhibition is being launched at Modern Art Oxford tomorrow.

The Pembroke Street venue is displaying work by artist Aleksandra Mir in Space Tapestry: Earth Observation and Human Spaceflight.

The space-themed show is free, and runs at the venue until November 12.

The new exhibition features large monochrome drawings inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry and the show has been supported by the UK Space Agency, the Science and Technology Facilities Council and Arts Council England.

Ms Mir was born in Poland, has American and Swedish citizenship and now lives in London.

She said: “My objectives are to push drawing beyond the limits of the small-scale, manageable sheet of paper into a larger, unruly reality.”

The artist added that her work explores the balance of technological progress and human objectives.
