EMMA Watson’s portrayal of her role in the Harry Potter film series was partly inspired by her dad, the star has revealed.

The 27-year-old said father Chris Watson’s style of reading contributed to how she imagined the brainy witch Hermione Granger, who she played from 2001 to 2011.

Miss Watson, who was a pupil at the Dragon School, in Oxford, said: “My dad read me all of the Harry Potter books, but specifically up to one, two and three.

“So my idea of how all of the characters sounded and what their accents were and what Hermione should be like is really from my dad.”

The first of the magical film series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was released in 2001 and was Miss Watson’s debut screen performance.

She would go on to star in all seven other Harry Potter films with co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint and recently played the character Belle in Disney’s live action version of Beauty and the Beast. Miss Watson is also a goodwill ambassador for the UN.
