LABOUR has selected its candidate for the Witney seat in the upcoming General Election.

Laetisia Carter, who has been chosen as the party’s candidate for the constituency in the upcoming election on June 8, said she will be a strong voice for the area.

A district councillor for Chipping Norton, Ms Carter is also the deputy leader of the Labour group on West Oxfordshire District Council.

The mum-of-two was the Labour ‎candidate for the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner last year.

She said: "I am thrilled to have been selected as Labour's candidate. It would be a huge privilege to represent the people of West Oxfordshire at a national level. I was born, raised and educated in West Oxon and love this area.

"I will be a prominent, energetic MP and ensure a strong voice for West Oxfordshire. As a mother of two young children I feel I understand the struggles that local families face.

“The Lib Dem and Conservative coalition did great damage. Under this Government it is getting worse. Labour has costed plans to invest in the skills, health and future of everyone - for the many, not the few."

Ms Carter will be out campaigning this Saturday in the centres of Chipping Norton and Witney.
