THREE people have been taken to hospital and one lane of the A34 is closed following a crash this afternoon.

One lane is closed northbound and traffic is moving very slowly on the Western By Pass Road at Peartree Interchange following the incident at about 2pm.

A silver Honda was reportedly flipped over and a black BMW has been left 'seriously damaged'.

Traffic is at a standstill from the scene of the incident stretching back to the Botley Interchange.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said crews were called at 2.04pm.

He said: "There were two people in one of the vehicles involved - an adult male and adult female - whose car ended up on its roof.

"The female had managed to get out of the vehicle on our arrival at the scene. Both she and the driver of the second vehicle involved sustained minor injuries and the male had sustained more serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

"We had two ambulances and an officer in a rapid response vehicle at the scene. All three patients were taken to the John Radliffe Hospital."

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Holly Claydon-Bevan said: "Police were called at 2.06pm this afternoon  to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A34 northbound, just before Kidlington junction."

Two crews from Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue also attended and helped get the man out of the overturned car.
