TWO sets of engineering works are taking place in Frideswide Square following a suspected gas leak and as part of utilities work.
Engineers from SGN were in front of the shopping parade this morning after being called to Frideswide Square on Wednesday night.
Spokeswoman Lynne Edwardson said: "A member of the public had done the right thing and called the National Gas Emergency Service.
"Our engineers attended quickly and a permanent repair has been made. The road surface is now being relayed and all being well, the work will be completed by the end of the day."
Other roadworks are taking place elsewhere in the square as part of utilities going to the former Glee Club in Hythe Bridge Street.
Oxfordshire County Council spokesman Martin Crabtree said: "We currently expect the companies to finish this work at the end of next week when they will then return the pavement to its original state."
