WHETHER murdering a king to seize the crown or trying to avenge their father's death, some of William Shakespeare's best known characters could be forgiven for struggling with psychological issues.

Thankfully for them a trio of top counsellors are on hand to psychoanalyse them as madcap comedy Analyse Thou returns to the stage.

Following a successful two night run at The Cellar in Frewin Court as part of the city-wide Oxford Shakespeare Jubilee 2016 the play will be performed at The Old Fire Station in George Street on Friday, April 21.

Analyse Thou was co-written by Jeremy Allen, Lee Woodward and Jodana Janse Van Vuuren and is directed by Jaclyn Bradley and produced by Tom McDonnell.

It sees the counsellors delve into the psyches of Hamlet, Titania and Lord and Lady Macbeth, exploring issues including a wanton fixation with donkeys.

Mr Allen said: "After sell-out performances last year we have played around with the characters and tried it in a slightly different way.

"This time we have a slightly different ending, we have honed the scrip and are trying something else.

"It can be appreciated by a scholar, there are some textual references that will make any scholars in the audience smile.

"But you can appreciate it on two levels even if you are not an expert."

Analyse Thou will be performed at The Old Fire Station at 7.30pm on Friday, April 21.
