SCORES of residents and housing association staff pitched in to help make a residential street in Blackbird Leys spick and span.

The event on Tuesday saw more than 50 households roll up their sleeves and don high-vis jackets to spruce up Falcon Close, off Kestrel Crescent.

Five skips, at between 10 and 20 yards long, were provided for the community clean-up and were all filled with rubbish by the end of the day.

Gardens and sheds were also cleared as well as household items.

Staff members from Oxford City Council's waste and recycling team also spoke to residents about bulky waste collections.

Lew Fryer, community involvement officer for GreenSquare housing association, said: "There was a fantastic community spirit with friends, family and neighbours all helping each other along with help from staff.

"A big team of young people from the neighbourhood collected 10 bags of litter. We also cleared the alley behind Falcon Close of dumped items.

"We were also really pleased to have the chance to talk to residents to get feedback – and see what interest there is for a relaunch of a residents' association."

Kim Morris Smith, who lives in Falcon Close, said: "Unfortunately both my husband and I were at work.

"In the morning all the rubbish was out the front but when we came back in the afternoon it was looking lovely."
