NOVICE dancers jumped and jiggled their way through the jive for the second Strictly Oxford rehearsal at the weekend.

The Strictly Oxford 2017 contestants took three hours out of what was the hottest weekend this year to hone their footsteps and learnt the entire jive routine.

It comes as the second rehearsal that contestants have been flung into learning ballroom dancing ahead of the final show to be staged at Oxford's New Theatre on Sunday, May 28.

Professional dancer and winner of Strictly Bicester Jan Jordan, who is also taking part in Strictly Oxford, said: "I took part in the very first Strictly Bicester in 2012 as a 'celebrity' and fell in love with dancing.

"I have taken part in several Strictlys since then and it is lovely to be able to pass on the love of dance to new 'celebrities'.

"In fact a few of my dance partners have also continued to dance for example Kieran Costello, who I won Strictly Bicester with this year is also taking part in this years Strictly Oxford."

The contestants have now learnt the jive and part of the American Smooth waltz in week two of the eight weeks training. There will also be one group dance for contestants to learn the steps to.

Once they have perfected their steps they will be performed on stage in front of the theatre audience as well as former Strictly Come Dancing professional Robin Windsor, who is the celebrity judge this year.

Ms Jordan added: "Training is going really well, it's great to see everyone enjoying themselves, not only learning a new skill but also raising lots of money for charity."

Contestants will also be fundraising during the eight weeks for two charities Vale House care home specialising in dementia care and Oxford Children's Hospital.

Last year the show raised £45,000, which organisers at Step by Step dance school hope to beat this year.
