A STRAY kitten is regaining strength after somehow getting stuck inside a cottage wall.

Tiny tabby 'Tatty' is being nurtured to good health in Burford, West Oxfordshire, after housekeeping staff prised open plasterboard to free her.

The adorable creature, believed to be just two or three-weeks-old, was heard desperately meowing from inside the hollow wall of a hotel property.

Staff cut through and scooped her out, calling in the Blue Cross animal charity who took the hungry kitten to their Burford rehoming centre.

The centre's foster carer Selena Bennett is now hand-rearing Tatty before she is ready to be taken into a new home.

She said: “Tatty was reluctant to take the teat of the bottle the first night I had her, regardless of the fact that she was clearly hungry and crying loudly.

“I got up every two hours and tried various methods to get a little bit of milk in her but it took until the following afternoon before she properly fed – now there is no stopping her. She’s making a good recovery from her ordeal.”

The cottage that Tatty was found at is part of the Swan Hotel in Bibury, Gloucestershire.

Hotel reception manager David Jones said: "It’s a mystery how she got in there.

"We had guests in the cottage but no reports from them that they’d heard anything so we’ve no idea how long she’d been in there or how she’d managed to get in there.

“We’re just pleased we could get her out and she’s now safe and being well looked after."

Blue Cross spokeswoman Emma Sword said 'hearts melted' at the charity when they heard about Tatty.

She said the centre is expecting a litter of kittens soon and recently welcomed some baby bunnies.

With Easter weekend looming, she asked pet owners to keep chocolate well of of the reach of animals over the Easter weekend as it contains a chemical that can be dangerous for pets.
