PUPILS at Christ Church Cathedral School enjoyed a pre-Eater treat as they were invited by the Dean of Christ Church to an egg hunt.

The schoolchildren from nursery and pre-preparatory age groups prepared for the day by making their own Easter bonnets and paraded them across Tom Quad on Friday.

A sea of bonnets flooded Christ Church Cathedral for the end of term assembly before pupils piled out to search for the Easter eggs.

Speaking at the event Dean of Christ Church the Very Revd Professor Canon Martyn Percy said: “It’s terrific to welcome the boys and girls into the Deanery Garden for this epic Easter egg hunt and fabulous to see such a brilliant display of bonny bonnets.

"The children have done really well to make the hats and they’ve brought the spring sunshine with them too."

The winners of the Easter bonnet competition were Marcus Pop, six, Douglas Mackintosh, six, and Benjamin Ferguson, five.

Earlier in the day, headmaster Richard Murray judged the Easter bonnet competition.

He said: "As I looked out at the children I saw a wonderfully colourful collection of hats.

"Eggs lay amongst the straw, lambs and chicks frolicked happily together over green meadows. Easter was very much in the air and on their heads.

"It was very hard to choose the winners as the standard was particularly high this year."
