Liam Sercombe says losing for a second successive time at Wembley means scoring at the stadium does not matter - for now at least.

The midfielder's strike 15 minutes from time gave Oxford United hope as they tried to peg back a 2-0 deficit against Coventry City in this afternoon's Checkatrade Trophy final.

But the U's failed to find an equaliser, causing more misery after last year's 3-2 defeat at the hands of Barnsley.

And for midfielder Sercombe, who started the game on the bench and was called upon immediately after Coventry went 2-0 ahead, the loss was hard to take.

"It really hurts, especially for those of us here last year too," he said.

"We desperately wanted to win this. Nobody wants to lose twice at Wembley."

Although his goal gave Oxford hope, Sercombe says it will only be in the future he can look back with pride at scoring at Wembley.

"It was a great thing personally and it will always stay with me that I scored at Wembley," he said.

"But it means nothing at the minute."
