HOUSE hunters looking for the best value in Oxfordshire need look no further than Carterton, new research suggests.

Property website Zoopla analysed average house prices to pinpoint places buyers fearful of being priced out of the area might still get a foothold.

Carterton, where the average house price is £290,976 compared to the Oxfordshire average £425,032, came in at fifth place.

The town’s mayor Lynn Little said its affordability was no secret to her - describing Carterton as a wonderful place to come and and live and raise a family.

She said: “It’s something I’ve been talking about for years. Carterton is the place to buy a house. There’s affordable housing - but good housing.

“We do know this, but we are very pleased that people are being pointed to this fact.”

She said the town has an ideal Cotswolds location, situated within short travelling distance of Oxford, Witney, Chipping Norton and Burford

Mrs Little’s only concern was the town’s need for more housing, infrastructure and amenities to help it grow.

Topping Zoopla’s list was Feltham, where an average property is less than half the price of a home in Greater London generally.

A typical property there costs just under £325,000, compared with the average county house price of about £660,000.
