AS Oxford United’s return to Wembley in a bid for silverware draws ever closer, DJ Kevlar is back in the mix to spur on the U’s with a new rap.

Taking to the microphone once again, Kevin Broe has released a second United cup song ahead of the Checkatrade Trophy final on Sunday afternoon.

The 40-year-old’s remix called ‘The Yellow Army’ features new lyrics, a new beat and has gone viral with more than 1,700 views on YouTube.

Taxi driver Mr Broe, of Buscot Drive, Abingdon, said he decided to come up with another rap after the response he received from last year’s song called ‘Come rap, come rhyme, come follow me, we’re Oxford United, we’re going to Wembley’, which has been viewed almost 13,000 times to date.

He added: “Last year was a bit of a shock.

“I decided to do another one with a new chorus. It’s much better this time. It was a bit raw last time.

“It was a good thing to do last year, but it was disappointing we didn’t win so I’m hoping they can bring back the cup this time.”

The U’s fan produced the song, inspired by his love of techno, rave and drum and bass on his own decks, which is now on YouTube and his Facebook page.

Last year many fell foul to rumours that DJ Kevlar would perform live at the national stadium which turned out to be an April Fool’s joke.

He said the rap was called ‘The Yellow Army’ because of the chorus of the song.

Mr Broe added the first verse is about Michael Appleton’s side getting to Wembley again.

He said: “The second is about last year and the song, and about people liking and disliking the song and me saying I ain’t bothered it’s just a bit of fun, to get a buzz around the final.”

Mr Broe said the third and final verse aims is about the U’s players playing with ‘passion and pride’.

One verse goes: “Back to Wembley on the Wembley Way, hope to see you all on the day. Second of April make it a date, see you there don’t be late.”

The part-time DJ said he was looking forward to returning to the capital to cheer his side to cup glory against Coventry City.

He added: “I think they (United) are doing really well. They have held their own and done really well in the league. It will be a great day and atmosphere going up on the train.

“I would like to say 3-1 Oxford United, but I’m not bothered what the score is, as long as they win.”

DJ Kevlar is not the only one singing for Oxford club glory, a band in Abingdon called Superloose has released a melody called ‘Class of 2017’. Australian-based fan Adam Lee has also composed ‘The Journey [C’ Mon Oxford We Are Going Up]’.
