  • Appeal for information after block of flats goes up in flames

Oxford Mail:

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire broke out at a three-storey block of flats in Didcot late on Friday night.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as residents scrambled to escape the burning building in Harrier Drive.

Another man had to be rescued by firefighters after being found inside.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for relevant information. The man is on police bail until April 13.

  • Man sought by police after car thefts and break-ins in Oxford

Oxford Mail:

Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to talk to following two burglaries and car thefts. 

Thieves gained entry to a home in Dene Road, Oxford, between 3 and 4am on Friday, February 10, where they stole keys before making off in an Audi Q5. 

Then, just over a week later, burglars gained entry to a house in East Field Close, Cowley, again stealing keys and an Audi Q5. The incident took place between 11pm on Saturday, February 18, and 10.45am the following day.

  • Teenage boy in hospital after vicious street attack

A teenager was punched to the ground and kicked by a man in Stockmore Street, East Oxford, last Thursday.

The victim was approached by a man between 4.45pm and 5.40pm who and attacked. He received face injuries and is currently at the Jogn Radcliffe Hospital.

The attacker  is described as an Asian man, about 5ft 9ins tall, of skinny build and aged about 19, with a thin beard. He was wearing a black Adidas tracksuit at the time of the assault.

  • Show chickens stolen from village outbuildings

An appeal was launched over stolen cockerels amid fears they will be used for fighting.

Ten show cockerels and five show hens worth £1,000 were taken from outbuildings in Sheards Lane, Stanford, in the Vale, between 7.30pm last Monday and 5am on Tuesday.

Police have identified three culprits, all male and wearing hooded tops.

Two of the chickens taken were part of a bloodline the victim had bred for years.

Police said the victim was extremely worried they had been stolen for cock fighting.

  • Cars targeted in rural beauty spots

A general warning has been issued to drivers not to leave valuables in their cars after a spate of thefts in beauty spots in South Oxfordshire.

Drivers are being asked to take steps to ensure their vehicle is not targeted, parking in signosted areas and being cautious about parking in isolation.

Motorists are also being warned not to 'leave anything' in the vehicle, especially personal documents.

  • Vandals hit play area after £31k revamp

A playground in Lucerne Avenue, Bicester, was targeted by vandals who tore up its new grass matting, destroying the ground underneath.

The play area had just undergone £31,500 worth of improvements from Bicester Town Council.
