A NEW 'state-of-the-art' 3G sports pitch in Oxford has been completed.

The £350,000 project at the back of the Leys Pools & Leisure Centre replaces the old and dilapidated hard court area.

The new pitch, which will have a 'state-of-the-art' 3G surface, can be divided into two smaller pitches.

It will also have new high-level fencing and new highly-efficient LED floodlighting. As part of the project, Oxford City Council will also increase the existing car park by 41 spaces, and install eight new bike racks.

The full scheme, which started in January 2016, will be completed by May 2017. The new pitch is expected to be open later this month.

Councillor Linda Smith, executive board member for leisure, parks and sport, said: "The new sports pitch is a great addition to the sporting facilities on offer to the local community in Blackbird Leys and football clubs across the city."
