OXFORD’s new Aldi supermarket will open for business on March 9.

The store will be open from 8am and is expected to create up to 50 jobs.

The discount supermarket is replacing a former Currys shop and will have a sales area of 906 square metres and 55 parking spaces.

Aldi's management said some of the reasoning behind the decision to create a store south-east of the city was because the Botley Road supermarket had drawn a lot of customers.

Currently the closest supermarkets to people living in the areas are Sainsbury’s superstore off Heyford Hill roundabout, Tesco at Oxford Retail Park and a Lidl in Watlington Road.

The company added it would actively seek to recruit people from the surrounding area.

In October, Aldi's Botley Road store reopened after a month-long closure for refurbishment works.
