MEMBERS of the public gathered to celebrate the life of an Oxfordshire collector and folklorist at the city’s historic Bodleian Libraries.

Marking the 100th anniversary of the death of Percy Manning, the Weston Library is hosting a special display, which started on Saturday and will run until to Sunday, April 23.

Manning amassed a collection on the history of Oxfordshire and its residents over his lifetime.

The display features prints, drawings, photographs and sketches on the people and places of the county.

Mr Manning donated over 200 objects to the Pitt Rivers Museum.

Folk dance group Kirtlington Morris performed among exhibits on Saturday.

Highlights of the display at the Weston Library include details of the changing landscape of Victorian Oxford.

These include an image from a proposal to add a spire to the city’s well-known Carfax tower and the floorplan of The Angel Inn, a pub in High Street that was demolished to make way for the University’s Examination Schools. For full listings of Percy Manning events visit: folkinoxford.co.uk
