THE meticulous plans detailing the funeral arrangements of Sir Winston Churchill will be auctioned today.

They map out the procession, St Paul's Cathedral ceremony, military flypast, and the coffin's transportation on the Thames and by train for burial in Oxfordshire.

They are expected to fetch up to £600 later at Farleigh Court Golf Course near Warlingham, Surrey.

Nessa Quinn from Catherine Southon auctioneers said the documents had been given to the daughter of one of the men from Scotland Yard involved in planning the former Prime Minister's funeral.

She said: "The documents are in a folder and they have details of where everybody was standing.

"This was all top secret because of security so it is very exciting to have these now in the public."

The former prime minister died of a stroke on 24 January in 1965 and his funeral was held on January 30.

His coffin was transported via train to Oxfordshire for the private family burial in St Martin's Church in Bladon, close to Blenheim Palace where he was born in 1874.

Also on sale is a Winston Churchill Toby jug from 1940.

Designed by Clarice Cliff after Churchill became prime minister, only 350 of the 31cm (12.2 in) high jugs were produced.

It is estimated to sell for between £600 and £1,000.
