AN OXFORD pub reopened yesterday following a six-figure revamp.

The Duke of Monmouth pub on Abingdon Road has undergone a major transformation which has also created ten new jobs.

As part of the refurbishment, owners Greene King have given the inn a complete makeover, introducing a lighter colour scheme, 'signature pieces of furniture' and 'fresh, contemporary flooring'.

The bar has also been completely revamped, with the introduction of an extended selection of local and national ales and world beers.

In addition, the food offering has been improved with the pub now promising a 'mouth-watering menu' including jerk chicken and slow-cooked pork belly.

General manager Simon Foster, said: "We're incredibly excited to have undergone such a huge transformation.

"The Duke of Monmouth is a great destination for locals and people visiting Oxford, so we’re pleased to be able to offer even better surroundings and a great new menu to both our loyal and new guests alike.

"We're particularly excited for people to try the menu, which we're sure will be a hit."

The Duke of Monmouth is one of Greene King's Meet & Eat brand pubs.

The industry giant, which operates more than 3,000 pubs, restaurants and hotels across the UK, also owns the Hungry Horse, Farmhouse Inns and Chef & Brewer brands.

The Duke is the second pub to the south of the city centre to close for a major makeover this year: London brewery Fuller's is currently in the middle of a huge refurbishment at the Head of the River pub at Folly Bridge, creating eight new 'boutique bedrooms' upstairs and revamping the food and drinks.
