AWARD winning director Ken Loach, who won a British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) on Sunday for Outstanding British Film will launch the Oxford Human Rights Festival next month.

The annual Oxford Human Rights Festival is in its 15th year and has become significant event at the University.

Loach will visit Oxford Brookes to launch the festival with a screening of his hard-hitting film, I, Daniel Blake.

He will introduce the film and also take part in an audience Q&A session.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Paul Inman said: ““We are very excited to welcome Ken Loach to Oxford Brookes University to kick off the Oxford Human Rights Festival.

“The festival is renowned for tackling key social and political issues both in the UK and worldwide.

“This year it grapples with the very real challenges facing society regarding refugees, climate change and homelessness.

“Ken Loach is a prominent figure, well-known for raising awareness of such issues in his work as well as fighting for social justice, so we are honoured to have his support.”

The event takes place on Tuesday March 14 from 6pm to 9pm in the John Henry Brookes Lecture Theatre, Headington Campus.

There will also be free screenings of the films Queens of Syria and Hector during the festival on March 16 and 18 respectively.

From February 27 the university’s Glass Tank Exhibition will feature work exploring ‘home’ and forced migration, as well as displacement in the UK and beyond.

The festival events are free and open to everyone.
