A BEVVY of musical celebrities will open Oxford's new PMT music store next month, it has been announced.
Supergrass singer Gaz Coombes, Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood and Del Amitri guitarist Iain Harvie will cut the ribbon on the new shop at 381 Cowley Road, on Saturday, March 4, at 9am.
Local acts including Duotone, Megan Henwood and Beth Thornton will perform acoustic sets throughout the day and the shop will host special discounts, freebies and giveaways over the weekend.
The legendary music shop, which has been based at Tyndale House on Cowley Road for the past 20 years, has equipped generations of Oxford bands including Radiohead, Supergrass, Ride and Foals.
A victim of its own success, managers spent years searching for a bigger space to stock more drum kits, pianos and synths.
In December the PMT parent company finally announced it had found the perfect place just a stone's throw down the Cowley Road - five times the size and with highly-prized parking spaces.
