A MOTORIST eating cereal behind the wheel is one of more than 150 drivers pulled over by police in a five day crackdown.

Thames Valley Police were stopping drivers in Oxfordshire last week along the A34 and M40 in a bid to tackle careless driving.

The joint operation with Hampshire police also covered the M3, M4 and M27 and caught 137 people on thier phones and others for reading books.

The driver eating his breakfast at the wheel was pulled over on the M27 and a HGV driver was caught shaving on the M4.

Sergeant Paul Diamond said: "It is disappointing to see so many people still using mobile phones while they are driving.

"If a driver's attention is on their mobile phone, it is not on the road and this can be potentially fatal.

"Sadly, we have seen many examples over the last 12 months of lives lost unnecessarily because a driver has not had their full attention on the road."

Thames Valley Police said there were no local breakdown for these figures.
