A MAN found with an extendable baton in his car has been fined £370.
During a routine stop and search in Cowley Road days before Christmas, police officers found the weapon in Alex Pinches’ vehicle.
Once completely extended the baton was nearly 90cm long.
The 21-year-old of Atwell Place, Oxford, admitted possessing an offensive weapon at Oxford Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He was ordered to pay a fine of £285 and £85 costs.
Police tweeted from multiple accounts their delight after Pinches’ sentencing, calling the punishment a ‘result’.
The police standards regard an offensive weapon to be any article made or adapted for use for causing injury to the person.
