HUNDREDS of stargazers will scan the skies using Oxford University telescopes.

Last year more than 1,200 people of all ages gathered at Stargazing Oxford as they sought to explore the wonders of the universe.

The event returns to the Denys Wilkinson Building at the university’s Department of Physics in Keble Road from 2pm to 10pm on Saturday, January 28, with the last entry at 9.30pm.

At the event there will be opportunities to observe the night sky with our range of telescopes, tour the sky in an inflatable planetarium and more.

A spokesman for Oxford University said: “Join us again as our astronomers will be on hand to answer all your questions including What constellations can you see in the night sky this month?, Why do stars explode?, and Is there life on other planets?

“Rain or shine, there will be plenty of astronomy to immerse yourself in.

“Try your hand at AstroCrafts (age six plus), listen to bite-sized flash talks on a wide range of fascinating topics covering the latest research in astronomy and astrophysics, present a space weather broadcast or talk to researchers about their work.

“You can also get hints and tips about star-gazing at home, with workshops run by local experts.”
