TOP comics are lining up to perform at an Oxford comedy club when it switches to a new venue next month.

The Glee club will start hosting its regular comedy evenings at The Bullingdon in Cowley Road on Saturday, January 14 after switching from its previous venue in Hythe Bridge Street.

The comedy club and neighbouring nightclub Wahoo were told to leave after owner Nuffield College struck a multi-million pound deal for the redevelopment of land near Frideswide Square.

From January 14 at The Bullingdon, a popular music venue, there will be weekly comedy nights and regular touring shows starring the top comedians.

The Glee club's director Mark Tughan said: "We’re very much looking forward to getting settled into our new home at The Bullingdon after six years on the other side of the city.

"And in the run-up to Christmas, we thought it’d be nice to mark the occasion with a giveaway."

The Bullingdon’s Paul Williams said: "Adding regular Saturday and special comedy nights to our established line-up of music shows is very exciting, and strengthens our reputation as one of the city’s best entertainment venues."

The Glee’s opening night at The Bullingdon will feature appearances from Tom Allen, fresh from his own headline tour and supporting Sarah Millican, plus the award-winning Marlon Davis, Ellie Taylor and Paul Thorne.

Other acts lined up for the coming weeks include hotly-tipped Jamali Maddix and Paul Tonkinson who will be at the club on January 21, with Ivo Graham and Steve Harris.

BBC Radio 4 Extra’s Newsjack host Nish Kumar will bring his acclaimed new solo show, Actions Speak Louder Than Words Unless You Shout The Words Really Loud, to The Glee on February 2.

And Rhys James, from ITV2’s topical @Elevenish, and Aussie Damian Clark will perform at the club on January 28 while Suzi Ruffell will be at the club with Michael Fabbri on February 4.

Last month promoters of the new venue gave away bicycles to passers-by.

The Glee Club opened in 2010 in Hythe Bridge Street and featured performances from Shappi Khorsandi, Angelos Epithemiou, Sarah Millican, Russell Kane, Ross Noble and Jack Whitehall.
