NORTH Leigh’s hopes of securing a lucrative trip to Tranmere Rovers were dashed as they lost 3-1 to South Park in the Buildbase FA Trophy last night.

Jamie Cook won and converted an 88th-minute penalty in the first round replay at Eynsham Park, but the Surrey visitors had already done enough to book their visit to Prenton Park.

South Park, who beat Oxford City in the previous round, opened the scoring on 29 minutes.

Millers goalkeeper Manny Agboola brought down Kofi Quartey and Kieran Lavery slotted home from the penalty spot.

Quartey doubled the advantage on the break just after the hour mark, before Jerry O’Sullivan’s mis-hit cross went in off the woodwork to put the result beyond doubt nine minutes from time.

Cook’s late spot-kick could not save John Brough’s side, who had beaten four teams to make the club’s first round debut, earning £12,450 in prize money.

North Leigh: Agboola, Platt, Hopkins, Turk, D James, R James (M Woodley 87), Murphy, L Williams (Fawke 80), Seacole, Cook, A Woodley. Subs not used: Thompson, M Williams, Else.
