FIREFIGHTERS received an unusual call this week...to rescue a kitten stuck in a toy car.

The pet managed to get its head stuck in the front of a child's toy.

Fire crews were called by the family to the house in Stanford in the Vale yesterday.

The owners had tried to cut the car to release it by had been unable to get through the plastic.

Fire crews had to use a small saw to free the kitten, which is only a few months old.

They said the pet was very distressed as it had been stuck for some time before being found by the owners. But firefighters were able to free the kitten which was unharmed.

Incident commander Graham Turner said: "It was completely stuck at the neck and the occupier had already attempted to cut the car in order to release it, but had been unable to get through the hard plastic.

“The fire crew managed to get enough space to slide a small saw blade down the hole by the kitten’s neck and after some very delicate cutting managed to free it.

“The kitten was unharmed, but it serves as a lesson to all youngsters at this time of year, not to be tempted to dive in to your presents too early.”
