ACCLAIMED actor Toby Jones was in Oxford this week as he paid a visit to Oxford Brookes University students to talk about his life and career.

Undergraduates studying drama and English literature listened to the Dad's Army and Captain America actor talk about his extensive career which was has spanned stage, television and film for the event on Friday.

He talked about his origins and influences, and how he learnt his craft, before offering advice on the dos and don'ts in the industry.

Head of English and modern languages Professor Simon Kövesi who invited the actor said: "Toby Jones is one of the most highly regarded English actors working today.

"It was such a treat to hear him opening up about his incredibly diverse career across stage, screen and radio, about his student life, and even about his methods in preparing for roles.

"Our Drama and English Literature students were really inspired."

Mr Jones said after the event: "Drama is a vast and growing subject because it feeds so many areas of life.

"Everyone in the world has access to making their own movie and they can make it anytime and anywhere they are, so that is a fantastic tool for young actors.

“Everyone is more camera literate than we were because they’ve spent their lives photographing themselves and other people.”

The actor who is originally from London began his life as an actor studying drama at the university of Manchester before landing his first film role in Orlando, based on the Virginia Woolf novel.
