KIDLINGTON's Christmas lights were switched on this evening as the festive spirit continues to sweep across Oxfordshire.

Sparkling lights were turned on in the village's High Street as families gathered to enjoy a range of entertainment from 6pm.

Performances included music from The Rock Choir, Kidlington Brass Band and the school choir.

There were also funfair rides and charity stalls.

Families enjoyed Oxford's three-day Christmas celebrations, which saw the city centre transformed into a Winter wonderland on Friday.

The festivities started with a Lantern Parade, with more than 300 youngsters winding their way around the city's streets.

Street theatre, light sculptures and a dance stage poured into Gloucester Green, while life-size puppets, jugglers and stilt walkers flaunted their talents during the festival.

Father Christmas and his reindeer will make a special stop at Wantage's 'Dickensian Evening', this week where Christmas lovers can indulge in a pig roast while enjoying a Victorian-style funfair, Punch and Judy show and charity stalls.

Mayor of Wantage Steve Trinder and town crier Dave Richardson will be joined by Heart FM's Lucy Ellis as the festive lights are flicked at 6pm on Friday, December 2.
