A NEW controlled parking zone (CPZ) has been approved near Oxford station to stop ‘outsiders’ parking in a North Oxford residential street.

After almost two years of consultation a CPZ in William Lucy Way was signed off by Oxfordshire County Council yesterday.

Council transport officer David Tole said the road which has a ‘mixture of million-pound houses and shared use flats’ might be the closest street to Oxford station with no parking controls.

Mr Tole added that councillor for the area John Howson had told him ‘outsiders’ had been parking on the street as it was close to the train station.

Only residents of William Lucy Way would be able to apply for visitors permits, 25 free permits per year and a further 25 could be bought for £20 for the on-street parking bays - which could be used for two hours.

The restrictions would be in place Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

He said: “There have been no controls on the road at all since the houses were built around 15 years ago and I’m led to believe there have been a lot of outsiders parking there.

“I think we have achieved a good balance here - it will give residents and their visitors greater flexibility.”

The road, which runs along the track north of Oxford, contain 63 properties, a mixture of houses and shared flats.

A consultation earlier this year drew 14 responses from residents, with all but four being in support of the scheme.

There were no formal objections but some residents argued that the restrictions should be in place for longer.
