A woman driver has died after the car she was in overturned on the M40.

The 53-year-old woman passed away at the John Radcliffe hospital on Friday after sustaining serious spinal and head injuries.

Police announced her death today and continue their appeal for witnesses following the single-vehicle crash on the motorway between junction 10 for Brackley and junction 11 for Banbury.

Shortly after 9am last Wednesday the silver Mercedes ML270 which was travelling in lane two of the northbound carriageway left the carriageway and travelled up an embankment.

It came to rest on its roof on the hard shoulder, having overturned.

Investigating officer PC Wayne Martin, from the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing based at Bicester, said: "I would still like to speak to anyone who saw the collision or who saw the vehicle travelling prior to the collision.

"We previously appealed for the driver of a black Audi who was driving close to the scene and would like to thank the public for sharing the appeal as we have located this driver."

Anyone with any information about the collision should contact PC Martin via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101 quoting URN 271 9/11.
