TOP fashion photographer Tim Walker used his talent to highlight Oxfam's second-hand shops with a Mr Men-themed shoot starring well-known models.

The Cowley-based charity, which aims to combat poverty around the globe, set up the shoot to highlight how second-hand clothes bought in Oxfam shops could look good and help raise vital funds.

Mr Walker said he chose the popular children's book characters created by Roger Hargreaves as a theme because they inspired him when he was growing up.

The photographer who has also worked for Vogue magazine, said: "It was an idea that came to me because I grew up with them - Mr. Men and Little Miss.

"They illustrated to me, at a young age, the variety of human behaviours and characters in a vivid way.

"There are all kinds of colours and characters of Mr Men and Little Miss and there's all kinds of clothes for all sorts of people that you can buy in an Oxfam shop.

"And they make people smile; the cause may be serious but you can still smile."

Included in the models Mr Walker chose were Vogue covergirl Adwoa Aboah, new fashion favourite Jean Campbell and Australian-born Lily Nova, who modelled for Gucci this season.

In the shoot Adwoa wore a vintage sequined dress which cost £30 and shoes costing £13.

Fee Gilfeather, Oxfam's head of retail marketing, said: "Buying party clothes from Oxfam is a great way to help fight poverty around the world - there's something for everyone.

"Enjoy buying something unique and affordable, wear it this party season, and if you don't want to wear it again, just donate it back".

Designer Charles Jeffrey also took part alongside actress Nikki Riam, dancer Harry Alexander and playwright Polly Stenham.

Explaining why he picked the theme for the Oxfam shoot, Mr Walker added: "I wanted to do something to help promote Oxfam - and Roger Hargreaves' humorous and entertaining children's illustrations are a powerful means of spotlighting what can be great about Oxfam shops.

"I hope that this inspires some great looks to be found at Oxfam for the end of year partying and holiday."

Oxfam is currently raising money for victims of humanitarian crises in Yemen, West Africa and Syria, and those affected by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti.

In the last financial year Oxfam's shops contributed over £20m to Oxfam's work to end poverty and shops in the county so far this year have raised about £1.5m.

As well as shops in high streets across the country people can also shop in the Oxfam Online Shop, with over 45,000 items of clothing and accessories.

Mr Men books celebrated their 45th birthday this year and a Mr Men and Little Miss book is sold every 2.5 seconds worldwide with lifetime sales topping 250 million books.
