DAVID Cameron has backed Chipping Norton in the search for Britain's best high street.

Appealing for votes – though not the kind he previously needed – on behalf of Experience Chipping Norton, the former Prime Minister said: "You know it's the best, I know it's the best.

"So go to the website and vote. Please do it as soon as you can."

The former Witney MP, who lives in Dean, about three miles from Chipping Norton, lent his support after the town was nominated for the 'small market town' category of the Great British High Street of the Year Awards.

It is the second time it has made it to the final stages, with the winner partly determined by a public vote.

Fellow Oxfordshire town Thame has also been nominated.
