FOOD lovers indulged in their favourite treats as an inaugural festival rolled into the city yesterday.

The Oxford Food and Drink Festival enticed visitors with more than 50 stalls of grub and tipples to tickle the tastebuds.

Celebrations were organised after Oxford City Council teamed up with group Bitten Oxford to bring the festival to the heart of the city.

A trail of stalls took foodies from Gloucester Green along St Michael's Street, Cornmarket Street and Market Street before joining Oxford Covered Market.

Local producers came together to flaunt the best food and drink they had to offer from across the city between 11am and 4pm.

Toe-tapping music from the Oxford Ukuleles Big Band launched the festivities, followed by hours of cookery demonstrations.

Youngsters also got stuck in with the festival, enjoying their very own cookery class with Mrs Bun the Baker, who showed them how to craft a chicken pie.

She said: "It was really good. The children loved it. I want to prove that toddler food really is not just for toddlers, adults can enjoy it too."
