BRICKS on the first homes in Barton Park will begin to be laid next spring.

Housebuilders Hill Ltd have started preparing the foundations for the first 237 of 885 homes in phase one of Oxford’s biggest housing project in a generation.

Since April, contractors have been on the land west of Barton, preparing the area for building.

While work continues a builder for the second phase of homes, which will include new sports facilities and allotments, is to be chosen.

Alex Robinson, senior development manager for developers Grosvenor, who are in partnership with Oxford City Council, said they were in the process of securing their ‘preferred bidder’ for the new homes.

He added: “We are delighted Hill are now on site with new homes planned for next year. The infrastructure works continue apace and the contractors are taking advantage of the dry weather to move forward as quickly as possible.”
